What’s so special about Peterborough you might be asking yourself. Well, there’s more than you might think. The City boasts a thriving theatre scene, the Queensgate Shopping Centre, a fantastic culinary scene, award-winning green spaces, parks, and beautiful nature reserves less than 10 minutes from the bustling city centre and a huge array of entertainment for all ages.

There are plenty of family activities in Peterborough to keep all the members of the family happy. Today I am going to tell you about my top 5 picks for a family day out.

Big Sky Adventure Play

If your children are really into soft play then this is the place to be. Catering for children from 3 months to 11 years Big Sky Adventure Play is Peterborough’s premier adventure play centre with slides, climbs, inflatables and ball pools, mini go-kart rides, trampolines and bouncy castles for fun days out no matter what the weather. There’s even a football pitch and a climbing wall with 4 routes for your little ones to explore. You will find full catering facilities available (including a licensed bar).

Peterborough Planet Ice Arena

Another way to burn off some of that extra energy is to visit the Planet Ice Arena, previously known as the Peterborough Skydome Ice Rink, the home of the Peterborough Phantoms. A busy ice skating rink that’s perfect for families, the Arena offers open skate and dedicated family sessions, plus special kid’s sessions, birthday parties and disco evenings. Total beginners are welcome and there are some expert lessons available for figure skating, ice hockey, ice dancing and speed skating! Planet Ice offers a delicious range of food options for all the family to enjoy.

Hamerton Zoo Park

If your family are animal lovers then you can’t go wrong with a visit to Hamerton Zoo Park. Hamerton Zoo Park is open all year round and offers an array of exciting wild animals and activities. The Zoo’s mission is to provide a sanctuary for rare and unusual animals, where people can gain an insight into conservation. I recommend a visit to the Land of the Tiger where you can see pair of white Bengal Tigers. The Stroll-a-Safari allows you to get up close to their domestic animals and you can even feed some of them. There also have 2 Play Areas, one for babies and toddlers and the other for older children.

Battlefield Live Peterborough

Battlefield Live is an exciting, challenging and adrenalin-pumping action venue for laser combat themed games suitable for ages 7 up. The whole family can play together safely! Home of interactive outdoor gaming action, the gaming guns use infra-red light and special sound and light effects to create an unforgettable combat play experience without the pain of paintball. Games focus on military-style exercises that can be played no matter the weather. All activities are carried out under the supervision of fully trained, friendly Marshalls.

Railworld Wildlife Haven

A much-loved visitor attraction and community asset in Peterborough, Railworld Wildlife Haven – right next to the Nene Valley Railways, Peterborough Station, is run by volunteers with the aim to ‘entertain and educate’ with an amazing combination of nature and technology to encourage environmental awareness. Railworld has 2,000 sqft of model railway, with hands-on exhibits. We have the unique hover train RTV 31. Formally the derelict Peterborough Power Station Coal storage yard the site is now a habitat for nature and biodiversity alongside model railways which children will love!
